A lot of reviews for "Alice In Wonderland" have been extremely negative, but I'm not really sure why that's the case. I walked into this movie with extremely high expectations and I must say I walked out satisfied. Tim Burton basically takes this classic story and makes it even crazier than it was before. Alice is now older and returns to Wonderland (later called Underland), but doesn't remember any of it. She thinks the whole thing is a dream while all of these curious characters are telling her she must slay the Jabberwocky and put an end to the Red Queen (played by the amazing Helena Bonham Carter). That's all I'll say about the story because it's hard for me to not reveal spoilers, so let me get on to what I really liked about this movie. The best thing about Burton's reimagining is the way he gives each character their very own personality. You find yourself actually caring about the characters, which doesn't happen often in movies these days (such as "Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen" and "Avatar"). I especially loved The Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, and Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. I've heard some people complain about how Burton changed the story too much and it didn't make sense, but who wants to see the same story over and over? That wouldn't be very exciting at all. Entertainment Weekly complained that Alice (played by Mia Wasikowska) "instead of the spunky girl we remember, is now a rather stern 19-year-old", but really if you pay one ounce of attention, she's quite a rebel considering the era. They make it perfectly well known that she refuses to wear a corset and thinks of all sorts of impossible things ("six before breakfast"). Entertainment Weekly even bashes Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter as well saying "There isn't much to him, really", but once again these people must not have been paying attention to the movie if they didn't understand. Another thing I've heard is all of this talk about the 3D in the movie. "Avatar" was filmed in 3D, but the 3D in "Alice In Wonderland" was actually added in post-production. This supposedly makes a huge difference, but I actually really enjoyed the 3D. Disney is way ahead of others in the 3D department with their advanced, high quality glasses and I didn't notice anything wrong with the 3D. Some people have called it "distracting", but I thought it was good fun and tastefully done. "Alice In Wonderland" simply isn't getting enough credit because of all the "Avatar" hype. Tim Burton has done exactly what James Cameron did, except he's done it with an actual good story. Everyone was babbling on how James Cameron created the world of Pandora and how amazing it was, but Tim Burton has done the same thing with Underland, and his creatures weren't even close to resembling real animals. That's real creativity and genius. I know it was based on the book and everything, but Tim Burton's "Alice In Wonderland" was still more original than James Cameron's "Avatar". It may seem like I'm just trying to bash on "Avatar" again, but it's because people went wild over it and "Alice" frankly isn't getting enough credit, but of course Burton never really does. He's been nominated for one Oscar ever and it was for "Best Animated Film". I just think it's a shame that Hollywood and these big reviewers don't understand true art and genius at work. "Alice In Wonderland" gets a very deserving 5 out of 5 stars in my book, and I may even see it in theaters for a second time.
And if you don't wanna take my word on it...

Tim Burton sucks donkey nuts. So not watching this. Your review just confirmed it for me. For once it's nothing against your review- which is fine- it just confirmed for me it's a typical wierd Tim Burton movie...and I don't do drugs.

This movie blew dicks, it was pretty damn bad. Not funny or entertaining. Very confusing and not in the way that it made you think, but confusing as in like hey that was stupid why would they put that in there. Even if i would have been high when I watched this then I still would have hated it.
