DJ Leagues
DJ Leagues is a 20 year old hip hop and R&B DJ from Brisbane Australia. He learned his craft primarily from heavyweight Brisbane DJ, DJ Maxwell, in mid-late 2006 and hasn’t looked back since. Leagues originally got interested in DJing after hearing ‘Blazin 2’, a hip hop tape put together by Sydney DJs Nino Brown and Samrai. However it wasn’t until after he heard DJ Rectangle’s early 2005 release (Pyrotechnics) that he really considered the idea of getting into the game himself. After hooking up with DJ Maxwell in a program called U-Turn (doing it for the kids y’all!), Leagues learned the basics of DJing first on CDJs (on which he has a moderate level of experience) and then on 1200’s. After playing a few successful club gigs in late 2006 Leagues (real name Reece) decided he wanted to move into digital DJing and mixtape releases. He is now in the process of finalising his first full length mixtape release- An Extraordinary Gentleman (a play on words from the film ‘The League of Extraordinary Gentleman’, which was released around the same time as many of the songs on the mixtape, intended to be a ‘highschool anthems’ mix for the mid-late 80’s generation). Digital DJing has taken over most of DJ Leagues’ work for the time being and he always has several remixes in the works (so get ready for some blacklabelled.com exclusives!). As an interesting side note, Reece will also be entering the Queensland Police Force in early 2008, so soon you will have to call him ‘Constable DJ Leagues’!
